Both works, GM I and GM II ( (proxime ad Lake Tyrrell), are derived from aerial sketches of genetically modified canola crops, which can be seen throughout northern Victoria and Southern New South Wales. The proximity to Lake Tyrrell accounts for the pink salt stains which rise from below when shallow cropping occurs, and are in stark contrast to the almost unnatural green of the canola plant.
